I will be presenting a workshop on June 29, 2018, on the “12 Lessons of Healing Through Grief” at the Chicara Center in Springfield, Illinois. Yoga & Mental Health: Working with Trauma & Grief Issues with Dr. Sonia Kennedy, RYT-200 of founder Empowering Wellness 360 & Cherie Barnes, NCC, CAMS-2, founder of The Healing Group
Yoga can be a useful tool to assist those impacted by the effects of trauma, loss, and grief. This workshop is a starting point to assist Yoga instructors, mental health providers, social workers, therapists, and other health and wellness healers and practitioners in their continuing education by providing a basic understanding of the physical and mental effects of students impacted by trauma and grief. The workshop will also provide self-care tips and tools for practitioners who serve and work with these clients.
In this workshop we will focus on the following:
· Understanding trauma and related mental health disorders
· Yogic practices (breathwork, meditation) and postures that can be utilized to assist clients
· Supporting yoga practitioners and healers on their journey in working with traumatized clients
· Looking at mental health & trauma-sensitive practices (healing, therapy, counseling) from a yogic perspective
· Sharing of facilitators personal experiences with trauma and reading/discussion of books
